Midweek plans
A midweek Rice Lake itinerary for family and friends
Plan a Tuesday-to-Friday break in Bewdley, Ontario, with a day in Port Hope, time at the cottage and practical tips for sharing meals and rooms.

A three-night plan you can make your own
A few days at Rice Lake can leave room for both a day out and a day spent at the cottage. This Tuesday-to-Friday itinerary starts in Bewdley, Ontario, and suits family or friends who can travel during the week. It is a suggested plan, rather than a package: check Airbnb for available dates, permitted arrivals and the minimum stay before organising the trip.
Choose one outing everyone wants to do, then leave space around it. A group with young children may prefer a short trip and lunch back at the villa; adults catching up may want a longer afternoon in town. You do not need to fill every bed to book the entire property.
Before Tuesday: agree on rooms, meals and cars
Sort out the sleeping arrangements before anyone packs. The villa sleeps up to 14: ten in five bedrooms and four on two queen sofa beds in the living rooms. Decide who will use the sofa beds, especially if some guests want an early night and others plan to keep talking.
Make one grocery list covering Tuesday dinner, breakfasts and a shared dinner later in the stay. Assign each meal to a household and check kitchen equipment with the host if a recipe needs something specific. There are five driveway parking spaces, so agree on car sharing if needed.
Tuesday: arrive with dinner already decided
Check-in is after 4 p.m. Keep your first evening simple: unpack, put groceries away and settle into the bedrooms you have agreed on. An easy meal gives everyone time to arrive without one person spending the whole evening in the kitchen.
After dinner, choose pool or foosball in the games room, or catch up in a living room overlooking the lake. If the hot tub or barrel sauna is part of your plan, confirm availability and follow the host’s instructions. Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m.
Wednesday: spend part of the day in Port Hope
Start with breakfast together, then choose a manageable outing in Port Hope. Combine a look around the downtown shops with a café stop or lunch. Check opening days before leaving: a weekday visit does not mean every independent business will be open.
For an indoor activity, look at the Capitol Theatre programme for a performance or film that fits your dates and your group. Book tickets only after confirming your stay; there may not be a suitable event on your chosen Wednesday. Our Port Hope day-trip guide has more ideas for putting the outing together.
Leave time to get back without rushing dinner. If a late show is the main plan, eat in town and keep the return to the villa quiet. Everyone’s holiday is easier when the evening plan is agreed before setting off.
Thursday: make the cottage the plan
Keep this morning free of bookings. Have coffee with a lake view, take turns cooking breakfast and let the group choose between games, reading and conversation. Two living rooms make it easier for people to spend the day differently.
If you want to explore Bewdley, consult the local guide and current conditions before heading out. The villa has private deeded lake access about a three-minute walk away; it is not on the shoreline. Access does not guarantee that swimming, boating or any winter lake activity is available.
For the last dinner, use the groceries you already have and share the cooking and clearing up. A meal together is often the easiest part of the trip to organise—and the part everyone has time to enjoy.
Friday: leave time for breakfast and checkout
Checkout is before 11 a.m. Pack most bags the night before, divide the final kitchen jobs and follow the host’s checkout instructions. Keep medicines, chargers and children’s travel essentials easy to reach for the drive home.
If Airbnb allows only a different arrival day or length of stay, adapt the plan to those dates. For an available two-night stay, choose either the Port Hope outing or the full cottage day instead of trying to squeeze both in.
Compare the full cost before you book
Enter your actual dates and guest count on Airbnb to compare the complete quote, including cleaning fees and other charges. Divide that total by the people sharing the cost. Midweek dates are worth comparing, but this itinerary does not imply a discount or a lower price.
Review the cancellation terms and house rules with everyone. The villa is for quiet stays; parties, events and pets are not permitted. Once your dates and terms work for the group, you can book on Airbnb and start assigning the enjoyable jobs.
